Behind The Name

I like puns. I like bunnies. ‘Hop’ was the first word associated with bunnies that came to mind, then ‘Happy Hour’. The pun pretty much wrote itself. Since blogging is a way for me to unwind and decompress, it seemed fitting that the time spent should be called my hoppy hour. It was light and whimsy: perfect.

The Author

I’m Charlene, a Sarawakian Chinese just starting out on my 30s journey. Professionally, I’m an ACCA affiliate and former Big 4 auditor, now working as an Assistant Finance Manager in private accounting. It’s funny, because I didn’t even want to go into accounting in the first place. I started off my first year in uni in Graphic Design and decided to switch to Accounting midway through the year just because my dorm roommate was taking it and I realised that design, despite being fun and engaging, wasn’t exactly my forte. So, here I am now. How one hairpin decision would change the entire trajectory of my life is a recurring theme that I would continue to explore every now and then here on my blog.

I like to think of myself as a woman who contains multitudes, like a mystery box that different people can open and find completely different things inside. I enjoy my solo life, whether I’m relaxing with something low-key, or embarking on new adventures when I have the appetite for a little more wildness. Most of the time, you would find me doing one or more of the following: reading literature, playing music (violin/cello/piano, in that order of proficiency), creating art, working out, taking a nap, doing jigsaw/logic puzzles, and spending time with my bunnies. I also love to collect things, especially bunny-themed ones, which I’ll occasionally dedicate a post to.

Why I started This Blog

I was in the mood for a passion project. Blogging is one way for me to indulge my love for writing and some tangentially related activities, like cataloguing and documenting things I find interesting. As a teenager, I was a part of the web design and blogging scene. But, that was in the early 2000s, and my old sites and design capabilities have long since vanished into the digital ether.

During a period of bedrot-induced ennui, it became apparent that I was so busy scrolling on social media and consuming other peoples’ lives, I forgot to live my own. Having this little online space allows me to express myself and reflect through journalling. It also helps me to relive and remember special moments. I hope to one day look back on it and be able to see how far I have progressed in my journey to living my best life. Happy reading!
